Penn Station is the main intercity train station in New York City. Serving over 600,000 passengers a day, it is the busiest passenger transportation facility in the United States. The station is located in Midtown Manhattan close to Herald Square, the Empire State Building, Koreatown, and the Macy's department store. The station is underground beneath Madison Square Garden, between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue and between 31st and 34th Streets. The original Penn Station was constructed by the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1901 to 1910. It was demolished in 1963 and replaced in 1969 with the current station.
